One of the lessons I have drawn from Japanese philosophy is that the word samurai originally carried the meaning of “to serve.” While the image of the samurai is often associated with martial skill, I have always been drawn to the deeper idea that true strength begins with service. For more than three decades, I have worked alongside entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and leadership teams as they pursued ambitious goals, navigated uncertainty, and solved difficult business problems. From first-time founders to some of the world’s largest financial and business institutions, my role has been to help people turn aspirations into practical results.
My perspective is shaped as much by experience as by study. As a three-time company founder, I have faced many of the same uncertainties and setbacks that confront entrepreneurs every day. My ideas have been tested not only in books and boardrooms, but also in the day-to-day reality of building businesses, earning customers, raising capital, solving problems, and making difficult decisions when there was no obvious answer.
Along the way, I have come to believe that the most effective leaders are not simply experts in one discipline, but systems thinkers capable of drawing insights from many. Law, finance, entrepreneurship, risk management, Japanese philosophy, and now artificial intelligence have all become complementary lenses through which I approach complex business problems.
Throughout my career I have worked across law, investment banking, corporate strategy, entrepreneurship, and risk management. After beginning my legal career with leading international law firms, including Sullivan & Cromwell, I spent decades advising companies, investors, and entrepreneurs on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, financings, restructurings, and strategic transactions. I have worked with organizations ranging from early-stage startups to multinational corporations across the United States, Chile, Japan, Hong Kong, and many other markets, helping them identify opportunities, manage uncertainty, and execute complex strategic initiatives.
Today I serve as General Counsel and Head of Corporate Affairs at W4 Games, part of the Godot Engine ecosystem. I also chair the company’s Risk Management Committee and oversee its Asia business. Since the company’s founding, I have helped build W4 Games from an early-stage idea into a global organization operating across 13 countries. My work extends well beyond legal matters, encompassing corporate strategy, governance, fundraising, commercial negotiations, and long-term organizational development.
Across more than thirty years and four continents, I have participated in hundreds of transactions and strategic assignments representing billions of dollars in aggregate value. Equally important, those experiences have exposed me to diverse cultures, business environments, and approaches to decision-making, reinforcing the importance of adaptability and continuous learning.
I have authored five books and more than 200 articles and blog posts exploring business strategy, entrepreneurship, finance, leadership, law, and cross-cultural thinking. The Business Warrior’s Dojo brings these ideas together through practical frameworks designed to help entrepreneurs and business leaders make better decisions in an increasingly complex world.
A growing area of my work focuses on artificial intelligence, knowledge systems, and knowledge geometry. I am actively researching knowledge representation, semantic organization, geometrical approaches to data mapping, and high-dimensional models of information as foundations for AI-assisted learning. My goal is not simply to apply AI, but to better understand how complex knowledge can be organized, connected, and communicated so that people can reason more effectively and solve difficult business problems. This research forms the foundation of the Business Warrior’s Dojo knowledge generation system.
When I’m not working or writing, I am usually training for my 5th dan kendo examination in the Andes mountains, studying languages, or composing music. These pursuits reflect the same curiosity that has guided my professional life: a belief that continuous learning, disciplined practice, and the integration of ideas across disciplines lead to better judgment, stronger organizations, and more meaningful work in service of others.
